Troubleshooting fields and screens

As we have seen in this and the previous chapters, many factors can control whether a field should be displayed. It can be very confusing and frustrating when an expected field does not display, as there are many configurations to check, such as screens, field configurations, and more. It is for this reason that Jira has a handy tool that can help you to determine why a field is not displaying for a given issue. To use the field helper tool, do the following:

  1. Browse to the issue where you are not seeing the field.
  2. Click on the Admin dropdown and then the Where is my field? option:

  1. Select the field you want to check:

As we can see from the preceding screenshot, the Archiver field is not being displayed on the issue because the field does not have a value for the current issue. So, this will save you time...
