Overview of this book

SOLIDWORKS© is the premier software choice for 3D engineering and product design applications across a wide range of industries, and the Sheet Metal module forms an important part of this powerful program. This book will help you to understand exactly what Sheet Metal is, why it is used, and how you can make the most of this fundamental design feature. You’ll start by understanding the basic tools, including Base Flanges and Sketched Bends, before moving on to more complex features such as Custom Forming Tools and Lofted Bends. The book covers all the necessary tools in a step-by-step manner and shares practical manufacturing tips and tricks that will allow you to apply the skills that you learn to real-world situations. By the end of this SOLIDWORKS book, you’ll have understood how to make the best use of SOLIDWORKS Sheet Metal tools and be able to create a whole range of 3D models and designs confidently.

Adding Bent Lofted Bends

The second type of Lofted Bend is the Bent version. Follow these steps to add it:

  1. Edit the current Lofted Bend feature; note that because we have already created a Formed Lofted Bend, we no longer have the option to change it to a Bent Lofted Bend.

However, we can delete the Lofted Bend and then reuse the same profiles to create a Bent version.

  1. Exit the Lofted Bend Property Manager so that we are no longer editing the feature, then select the feature in the FeatureManager Design Tree and press Delete. This will remove the Lofted Bend feature but keep the two underlying sketches.
  2. Select the Lofted Bend tool, and then select the two profiles again. Remember to try to select corresponding points on each profile.
  3. Now, select the Bent option from the Manufacturing Method section of the Property Manager.
  4. The Bent option contains many more sub-options than the Formed option, but at this stage, use the default options and press...
