Summary

In this chapter, we learned what PDF accessibility and the Section 508 guidelines binding in the USA are. We reviewed what accessibility compliance guidelines are from a legal perspective.

We learned about impairments that restrict access to electronic information and explored methods that affected readers use to access information. This helped us to understand how publications need to be designed and published so that the support devices that those readers depend on can extract meaningful content. The principles of accessible document design were reviewed, and we looked at methods used to implement them.

Finally, we learned how Acrobat assists in evaluating the level of compliance, such as Accessibility Checker, and how to use tools to repair a document in need of remediation.
