Classic workflows are processes used for automated business processes that don’t require user input. The following screenshot shows a classic workflow in the workflow editor:

With classic workflows, you can perform the following tasks:
- Use branching and nesting logic
- Create and update records
- Send emails
- Create activities
- Append information to existing records
- Wait for a specific date, length of time, or field value before continuing
- Assign the ownership of records
- Change the status of a record
- Call child workflows
Classic workflows are normally initiated by system events and run on the platform. A classic workflow executes steps and can be run either in the background or in real time.
