Why should we apply design thinking to gamification?


In principle, both design thinking and gamification strive to deliver a user-centric experience. We are already cognitive of the fact that gamification is more about engaging the end users by influencing their behavior. This infusion of engagement is rendered effective by applying design thinking principles, such as:

  • Understanding the target audience: Understanding the target audience behavior is an extremely crucial step while devising a gamification system. Design thinking will provide useful insights about the end user behavior and expectations.

  • Influencing the target audience: By carefully observing the behavior of the end user, design thinking can influence the target audience behavior. It would provide valuable insights on the end user motivation and engagement levels. Further, we can discern the causes of disengagement and tailor our strategies accordingly.
