Measure is a stage that allows us to get to grips with the gap between the target and actual performance—precisely what Six Sigma aims to tackle. The stage involves a comprehensive data collection plan with a clear definition of what data needs to be collected, for what duration, and how it should be reported. This ensures that the data is both uniform and as extensive as possible. Before data gets collected, it is also essential that we ensure that the measurement system that we are using is also correct, stable, and without significant variation. The data collected can be represented in various ways depending on the type of data and the perspective for the process and the data.
