Another solution to create accurate terrains is by means of a heightmap. A heightmap is a texture with stored values that can be used, in this case, by Lumion that translates this 2D information into a 3D terrain. This recipe will help you to see how you can import a heightmap and save the terrain you created in Lumion as a heightmap file.
To start, you need to have your heightmap ready, and this texture needs to be saved as a DDS file.
To work with heightmaps in Lumion, perform the following steps:
On the left-hand side of the screen, select the Landscape menu and click on the Terrain submenu button.
The buttons we want to focus our attention on are shown in the following screenshot:
As soon as you import the texture, you will realize that Lumion translated the 2D information into 3D.
