Introduction

This chapter will take us to the next level in creating games with Scratch. Chapter 4, Basic Gaming, focused heavily on learning some basic techniques in creating your first games in Scratch. Here, we'll extend this by exploring different ways to build upon what we've already done.

A lot of what we will deal with in this chapter requires working with variables, which we've used before for storing information, such as the score. We'll also learn a topic related to variables, known as lists. This helps us to store groupings of data.

We'll also take some time during this chapter to work a bit more heavily with the Operators category of blocks. These blocks perform various math operations for us, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and much more. Here we'll work with a few of the basics, and learn more in Chapter 8, Programming to Calculate.
