Recording a voiceover

If you have a face for radio, here's your chance to shine! We've all wanted to record a voiceover for a movie trailer and sound like some of those baritone narrators we hear during previews at the movie theater. Or, more realistically, you're making some informational video and need to get your point across with a mix of picture and sound. FCPX lets you record live into your timeline using either your Mac's built-in mics or any professional ones you've got plugged in.

How to do it...

1. Select Window | Record Audio. The Record Audio window pops up, as shown in the following screenshot:
2. Select which event you want your voiceover(s) to be recorded to under Destination.
3. Select Input Device. For the Mac's built-in microphone, select Built-In Microphone. For any attached microphone, select it from the drop-down menu.
4. Start talking while watching the audio meters to get a sense of whether or not you need to adjust the Gain slider. If the peaks of your voice are falling...
