Selecting data and record sources

In this section, we will deal with the input options for the report builder—you will learn what they are and when to use each option. Moodle Workplace supports two types of data sources: the Workplace database and the Workplace data store.

The Workplace database is the underlying database where Moodle Workplace stores its data. Courses, users, job assignments, programs, and other data—such as information about learning resources added by authors, forum posts contributed to by learners, and system settings configured by the administrator—are mostly stored in the Workplace database.

The Workplace data store contains historical information and snapshots of past events, such as course completion. We will dedicate an entire section to the data store at the end of this chapter.
