The Lightning Platform provides features and functionality that allow customization at various levels, which, in turn, allow not only programmatic solutions, but also declarative solutions requiring no coding knowledge and these declarative features enable the user interface to be customized.

The user interface for the Lightning Platform has evolved over time and there have been several styles or themes added and different models used for the way that the user interface elements have been rendered.
