Before uploading your songs and selling them online, you should first register your music with a collection society. From a legal standpoint it proves that you are the creator of the song and settles any disputes that could potentially arise where someone uses your song without your permission. More importantly, registering your music is how you get paid royalties.

There are different types of royalties that you can collect. How these royalties get retrieved can be very confusing and goes beyond the scope of this book.
