What is a style?

A style in Word is a set of preset formatting options such as font, size, spacing, color, and other effects. You can apply these styles to any text in your document, which can make it easier to give your document a consistent look. Word comes with several already created styles, but you can also create custom styles that you can use again and again to give all your documents a consistent look.

There are many styles in Word but the ones we are probably most familiar with are found on the Home tab in the Styles section. This is referred to as the Quick Styles gallery:

There are three basic types of styles (paragraph, character, and linked styles).
