Creating custom Quick Parts

We've discussed how to use Quick Parts in Chapter 5, Working with Short Documents, as a great way to save time when working with short documents, where pieces of documents (think letters, memos, resumes, and so on) tend to be reused. In that chapter, we talked about using some of Word's built-in features, such as fields, Building Blocks Organizer, and the AutoText feature to build customizable text blocks that you can add to your document with just a click of a button.

In this chapter, we will continue where we left off there and discuss how to create custom Quick Parts that will appear in various galleries, such as a custom header.

Creating a custom header

To create a custom header that will appear in the header gallery alongside the other sample headers, the easiest way is to first design your header as you would normally. Open the header, add any text or decorative elements you like, such as spacing, page numbers, and document info...
