AutoSave

AutoSave is a wonderful feature designed to help save you from that "oops" moment when you close a document and afterward, you realize that you've forgotten to save your work. You might be able to recover some of those lost changes, but you might not get them all, which can cause you to lose many hours of work. With AutoSave, you never have to fall victim to this again.

When working with a document in Word for the Web, any edits that are made are saved automatically by default, and you have no choice about it. Word 2019 does not have an autosave feature; you must save any changes manually using the Save button.

AutoSave is always on, unless it's not

AutoSave is part of Microsoft 365 Word. When you save a Word document to OneDrive, the AutoSave feature of Word is enabled by default. From that moment on, any changes you or your colleagues make to that document will be saved automatically, but this can be turned off.
