Immersive Reader

The Immersive Reader tool is primarily designed to help improve reading comprehension for people with learning differences and people who are reading a non-native language. I've found, though, that this tool is quite useful for anyone, especially adults who struggle to stay focused in busy or distracting environments, such as in open office spaces or while working at home with kids in the house. If I must read a document and I am having difficulty concentrating, I can just pop in some headphones, turn on Immersive Reader, and Word will read aloud my document to me while highlighting the words.

Using the Immersive Reader tool

You can use the Immersive Reader tool to read an entire document or just a small section of text. Simply tell Word where to begin:

  1. Move your insertion point to where you'd like Word to begin reading, or simply select the text you'd like to read.
  2. Click on the Review tab.
  3. In the Speech group, click on the Read...
