Formatting essentials for templates

If the template doesn't quite match your needs, or if you are worried that your template will look like everyone else's document, you can still modify a template's appearance and placeholder text. In fact, even if the template does match your needs, I strongly encourage you to still modify the template to make it your own. Even with making modifications, templates still save time now (depending on how many changes you make) and in the future if you plan on reusing that template over and over.

Important note

There will be times when you will want to avoid starting from or even modifying a Microsoft-designed template. If your profession is design-centered or your personal brand is about originality and creativity, using someone else's template will not communicate those ideas. In these situations, start from scratch and design your own template.
