Is efficiency greater than performance?
Now, let's look at a question that does not have an answer – some don't even feel like they make any sense. The first thing we should do is evaluate exactly what efficiency and performance mean. If you look up the two literal definitions, you will notice that they are quite similar. Does this mean they are the same thing, though? A few people we know would vehemently say 100% yes, but we are not so certain.
Why are we not certain?
Are they related to each other? Very much so. Are they, at the core, identical? No! There is a fairly big difference between these two that is pretty well hidden in the language that's used to define them. In our opinion, efficiency and performance can be defined as follows:
- Efficiency mostly focuses on reducing waste and optimizing how resources are used. It is aligned to find the best way to create a solution with minimal impact or resource allocation.
- Performance...
