A managed solution can be created by importing a solution that has already been exported. Its package type must be set to Managed.
To create a managed solution, click on the Export button in any solution. Then, in the Export as column, select Managed, as shown in the following screenshot:

Managed solutions are used to distribute customizations. Managed solutions allow the developer to control what happens to the solution once it has been deployed and can help protect the developer's intellectual property.
Once you've imported a managed solution, the following rules apply:
- You cannot add components to the solution.
- You cannot remove components from the solution.
- You cannot delete components from the solution.
- You cannot edit the solution record.
- You cannot export the solution.
