Each environment has a type that defines its purpose and what can be done with it. There are six types of environment:
- Production: For permanent work.
- Sandbox: For non-production environments, such as development and testing.
- Default: Each Microsoft 365 tenant has a default environment created automatically.
- Trial: For short-term testing needs; automatically deleted after 30 days.
- Support: Created by Microsoft Support as a copy of another environment. Support environments do not affect your storage capacity.
- Developer: Created by users signing up for the Community Plan. Developer environments are restricted to the user.
Depending on the type of environment, you can perform operations on environments, as discussed next.
