I wasn’t expecting the Chief Executive to say that we had the same job.
Well, you wouldn’t, would you?
He didn’t get it, obviously, which was to be expected, of course. I found it both frustrating and strangely reassuring that I could relocate nearly three-and-a-half thousand miles from London to New York and, again, find myself working for a CEO that didn’t get Enterprise Architecture (or “EA”, to you and me).
My new boss, Lucy, had told me in my final interview that Michael, the global CEO, would want to see me on my first day. She said that he always wanted to have a get-to-know-you conversation with every new member of the staff, from Vice President level upwards; just a short informal discussion, to help me bond with my new workplace, or something like that. Lucy and I had even role-played what I would say to him if I got the job.
