Connections between Cloud and Agile

The cloud brings specific features to software development, including self-service resource provisioning; elasticity; the ability to pay as you go for computing resources; and the promise of rapid development, testing, and deployment through Platform as a Service (PaaS) technologies. Also, cloud services promise to accelerate or replace existing on-premises services with cheaper, easier-to-obtain services for specialized technology services such as performance testing and email.

You must have processes that allow you to take advantage of these new capabilities, however. You will not gain all the benefits you want if you must work within a tightly controlled, bureaucratic environment that forces you to plan everything up front and follow formal processes developed for a different set of assumptions about the cost and value of computing resources. That is where Agile methods and approaches come in.
