Usually, an organization that is looking to get a solid start or a good handle on its cloud strategy already has several cloud-related initiatives live or in the pipeline. We often see lines of businesses experimenting in a “shadow IT” mode or a sales group already using cloud solutions from cloud-based vendors such as Salesforce.com. Observing all the groups and departments of an organization pursuing their own agendas, the CIO and often the chief financial officer (CFO) usually intervene to formalize an enterprise wide unified cloud strategy. Given the cross-organization interest, completeness of thought becomes critical in involvement and buy-in from the various stakeholders.
