As enterprise architects empower developers and site reliability engineers to make more decisions during project execution, they can focus more on defining strategy for repeatable success. In Chapter 3, we talked about strategy from the perspective of the chief information officer (CIO) and defined dimensions including architecture and technology. Later in the chapter, we described prescriptive steps for developing a cloud strategy. An enterprise architect will be involved in all these steps but is needed to drive step 2, which is complete analysis of the workload portfolio.
During this phase, you need technology skills to determine how to handle the different workload types. Some large organizations may have hundreds of applications, so using tools to determine how to assess workloads is key.
