Using ILR (Item Level Restore)


This recipe covers how to restore a single flat file from a protected virtual machine.

Getting ready

The most common scenario in a private cloud deployment is to protect the tenants and offer the possibility to restore flat files from within the protected virtual machine. This restore scenario does not demand any additional configuration since it is present as an out-of-the-box feature.

How to do it…

When you want to restore a flat file from within a virtual machine, open the DPM console and go to Recovery. In the Recovery section of the DPM console, choose your virtual machine in the Browse area. Expand the SCVMM "SERVERNAME" and scroll down to the very end, till you find your virtual machine disks. On the right-hand side of the DPM console, choose the desired date in the calendar and desired time in the drop-down list next to Recovery time. Under Recoverable items, double-click the VHD or VHDX file and right-click the flat file that you would like to recover...
