Chapter 3. Building Heroku Applications

In the previous chapter, we took the first step in understanding Heroku. We learned the different components of the Heroku platform, starting with the platform stack and ending with the Platform API used to programmatically execute Heroku operations. We also delved deeper into the Heroku process architecture, which is in a way the heart of Heroku's platform architecture.

Now, we will take the next step. We will learn more about Heroku, including how to build scalable web apps on the Heroku platform including the mechanism used for configuration and providing language support for the app. But before we do that, we will also look at the key ingredients or principles that (should) govern the way SaaS web apps should be developed. This set of principles is called the Twelve-Factor App methodology.
