Chapter 3. Preparing Your System for XenApp® Deployment

As we approach the beginning of the XenApp implementation, there is a list of prerequisites that have to be met to ensure that the Citrix software will install and function properly. Building on the architecture designed in the previous chapter, we will deploy Citrix VMs on top of a hypervisor (in our case, XenServer). The entire Citrix infrastructure will use Windows VMs (both server and client side, except for NetScaler), so the first step is to create the VMs outlined in the previous chapter, design your hypervisors, and install an OS on them. In this chapter, we will use a layered approach to examine the system requirements for all Citrix components. The following layers will be analyzed in detail:

  • Access layer

  • Resource layer

  • Control layer

  • Hardware layer

Each layer in the Citrix infrastructure has a function to either deliver, manage, or access published applications and desktops. By ensuring that all the required components are in place...
