In this chapter, we will discuss troubleshooting by leveraging various utilities to diagnose common problems that can surface in a Virtual SAN environment. The primary focus is on retrieving information that is not readily available on the GUI, delving into statistical data to ensure the desired level of performance, and eliminating anomalies at a very early stage.
The overall objective of this chapter is to proactively monitor the VSAN infrastructure and familiarize with tools to expedite the troubleshooting process by chasing down the components that are exhibiting abnormal behavior. We will discuss the following topics:
Troubleshooting workflow
Understanding the software components of VSAN
ESXCLI namespace (based on the command line)
Ruby vSphere Console (based on the command line)
VSAN Observer (based on the graphical user interface)
