So far, we have looked exhaustively at the crux of VSAN through its first generation. In this chapter, we will discuss the new features, enhancements, and architectural changes done to VMware Virtual SAN in the latest version, VSAN 6.0, that is embedded with vSphere 6.x.
To avoid any ambiguity about the versions and generations that will be interchangeably used, the first generation of VSAN (VSAN 1.0) is embedded with VMware ESXi 5.5 U1 and U2, and managed by VMware vCenter Server 5.5 U1 or U2.
The second generation of VSAN (VSAN 2.0), is embedded with VMware ESXi 6.0 and managed by VMware vCenter 6.0.
