In keeping with the theme of communications, the next question that comes up is the support for using a USB webcam with a virtual desktop machine.

The issue

Previously, this provided the same challenges as we saw with unified communications and VoIP. Using a webcam or devices using audio in a virtual desktop machine was not supported due to the high bandwidth requirements these types of device require. As the redirection of these types of devices was handled with the USB redirection feature of the PCoIP protocol, the traffic was sent over the same protocol as your desktop, slowing your desktop down.

The other part of the issue is that the audio to the endpoint also travelled down the same tunnel as the USB webcam traffic and the desktop, just adding to the bandwidth issues. As for audio-in, well that never worked at all!

A part of the problem is that you can't separate audio-in from audio-out when using a USB audio device. This means that using a USB headset for a VoIP...
