The virtual machine power operations
Once you have created your virtual machines, you can now perform power operations on them. But before we see how, let's learn the power options provided by vCloud Air.
Note
Advanced power options, such as Suspend and Resume, work well when the virtual machine has VMware Tools installed on it. By default, the templates provided by VMware all have VMware Tools installed and preconfigured on it.
The following table will take you through the power operations for a virtual machine:
State |
Description |
---|---|
Power On |
Powers ON a virtual machine. |
Suspend/ Resume |
Suspends a running virtual machine by freezing its state. Suspending a VM does not power off the VM. It preserves the virtual machine's state. You can resume from a suspended virtual machine. When resuming the virtual machine is powered back on and restored to its last state. |
Reset |
Power cycles the virtual machine. Resetting the virtual machine clears the memory and cache, equivalent to a reboot command... |
