Setting up VMware vSphere Replication

VMware vSphere Replication is an extension of VMware vCenter Server that is a quick and easy hypervisor-based virtual machine replication and recovery. It is designed to protect virtual machines from failures by replicating the virtual machines between the following sites:

  • From a source site to a destination site

  • Within a single site from one cluster to another

  • From multiple source sites to a shared remote destination site

VMware vSphere Replication can be downloaded as a ready-to-use appliance from the MyVMware portal. Each appliance contains three important components: a vSphere Replication Manager server, an embedded database, and a plugin for the vSphere Web Client.

Once downloaded, import the appliance into your vCenter Server using the following steps:

  1. Log in to the vSphere Web Client and select vCenter | Hosts and Clusters.
