Chapter 10. Events and Notifications

Now that we have learned about and created client and server-side scripts, including UI pages and macros with Jelly scripts, let us learn about the concepts of events and notifications.

In the ServiceNow platform, events and notifications are among the features that are the easiest to implement. Events are used to monitor changes or events by event handlers, just like in any other programming language. Events in ServiceNow are stored in a table named Event (sysevent), which is also referred to as Event Log or Event Queue. Events in the queue are consumed by script actions or notifications that in turn execute scripts or trigger notifications.

Notification, on the other hand, is the system in place within the ServiceNow platform to send our e-mail or SMS notifications to the end users.
