Advanced storage features

vSphere version 6.7 brings a lot of improvements to storage levels, and some new features in different areas, from VMs to datastores, to low-level storage; we will discuss in the next paragraphs.

Virtual Machine File System (VMFS) 6

VMFS 6 introduces two new internal block size concepts for file creation—Large File Block (LFB) with a size of 512 MB and Small File Block (SFB) with a size of 1 MB—and these are used to back up files on the VMFS 6 volume. Note that the VMFS block size remains 1 MB. Small File Blocks (SFBs) are used to back thin disks.
