Diving into the 6 Rs of cloud migration

When you start looking at migrating your existing applications to the cloud, there are six broad categories of migration. In this section, we will dive deep into all of these options and explain how to decide which migration strategy to choose for your applications. The following diagram refers to the six ways on AWS cloud.

Rehost (lift-and-shift)

This cloud migration approach, also known as lift-and-shift, is the strategy that most companies gravitate toward given its relatively low effort. With this approach, the application and its dependent resources are simply moved to a cloud platform as-is.

This means that your core framework of infrastructure components, your application’s dependencies, and the end-user experience remain the same. You will be able to meet scaling needs better as you begin to leverage the scalability and elasticity aspects of the cloud...
