Understanding IPv4 and IPv6 Addressing

Each device connected to a network needs a logical address to be able to communicate with other devices and share resources. Without logical addressing, a sender will not be able to specify the delivery address or location for a message, and a recipient of a message will not know the sender’s address if a response is needed.
