As a user of the software or perhaps the IT department looking to select some software to be used throughout your company, you can (and are encouraged to) view the source code, critique it, and audit it to ensure it’s safe.
From a security perspective, this is a huge motivator for creating secure and reliable code. As the user or consumer of the software, you can read the code, understand the level of quality, and find security exploits or shortcuts the developers might have taken. These factors help you decide if you can trust the software for your use case.
