In the programming paradigm Model-View-Controller (MVC), an application design/functionality is broken down into three main areas or layers: the model layer, which represents the logic of an application; the view layer, which deals with the presentation (sometimes referred as rendering) aspect of an application; and the controller layer, which is that portion of an application that directs the flow between the other two layers. Under the J2EE umbrella, EJBs often implement the model layer of an application, whereas Servlets implement the controller layer, which leaves the presentation layer to JSPs.
