In this chapter, we migrate toward the fun stuff. In Chapter 2, we explored the organizational and team aspects of implementing SLIs and SLOs within your organization. In Chapter 3, we defined and outlined personas and the customer journey as it relates to SLIs and SLOs. By understanding this process in its totality, we provide ourselves with an opportunity to ensure that our engineering teams clearly capture and understand our customers’ needs.
In doing so, we can accurately establish application boundaries to identify, implement, and prioritize SLIs, which, in turn, help define SLOs and monitor performance against SLAs to ensure stable reliability through appropriate metrics. This chapter’s goal is to outline the workshop’s structure before applying it.
