Restoring a SQL database from Azure


This recipe will cover the scenario where you need to restore your SQL database from your Azure recovery service.

Getting ready

The most important thing regarding the restore operation from Azure is that you have network connectivity. The Azure Backup Vault should never be seen as a disaster recovery function; it is a data recovery function. The difference is that Microsoft Azure depends on an Internet connection.

How to do it…

  1. Open the DPM console and click on Recovery. Expand the tree on the left-hand side of the console and click on the SQL database that you want to restore. Choose the date and the recovery point time for the restore.

  2. The main difference is that you need to choose recovery from an online snapshot; all time for online snapshot will be listed as Online in the drop-down time list.

  3. Right-click on the database and click on Recover… to start Recovery Wizard.
