Understanding how DPM protects DAG configurations

This section will cover how System Center Data Protection Manager 2012 R2 should be configured to protect an Exchange environment that is configured with DAG.

Getting ready

The most important part regarding your Exchange backup design is your restore scenario and how you should consider your disaster recovery scenarios. For item-level restore scenarios, which means restoring deleted items such as e-mails, you should take advantage of the Deleted Item Retention function. Within the Exchange server architecture, you have the option to restore hard deleted items using built-in tools within the Exchange server that could be accessed using Exchange Management Shell or EMS.

How to do it...

The protection for the DAG configuration is made in the Specify Exchange DAG protection step in the protection group wizard; for more information regarding the other steps, refer to the Protect a single Exchange mailbox database recipe in this chapter.
