Creating a virtual machine

A virtual machine can be created by either using the vSphere Web Client interface, or by using the vSphere Client interface connected directly to the ESXi server. In this recipe, we will learn how to create virtual machine by using the vSphere Web Client interface.

How to do it...

To create a virtual machine, we will use the New Virtual Machine wizard. There are many GUI locations from where the wizard can be started. However, in this recipe, we will use the virtual machine inventory as a starting place.

The following procedure explains how to create a virtual machine by using the vSphere Web Client:

  1. Connect to the vCenter Server as an administrator by using the vSphere Web Client.

  2. Navigate to the VMs and Templates view from the inventory Home as shown in the following screenshot:

  3. Navigate to and right-click on Datacenter, and then click on the New Virtual Machine… menu item, as shown in this screenshot, to bring-up the New Virtual Machine... wizard:
