Mapping a physical adapter (vmnic) to a dvUplink

Mapping a physical adapter to an existing dvUplink has to be done per host. Keep in mind that the physical adapter count cannot exceed the dvUplink count.

How to do it...

A physical adapter (vmnic) can be connected to a VDS either by using the vSphere Web Client GUI or by using the ESXi CLI.

Using the vSphere Web Client

The following procedure explains how to add an uplink to a VDS by using the vSphere Web Client:

  1. Connect to the vCenter Server using the vSphere Web Client and use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Alt + 6 to go to the Network Inventory view.

  2. Right-click on the VDS you would like to map a physical adapter to and click on the menu item Add and Manage Hosts to bring up the Add and Manage Hosts wizard.

  3. In the Add and Manage Hosts wizard, select the option Manage host networking and click on Next to continue.

  4. In the next Select hosts screen, click on Attached hosts to bring up the Select member hosts window as shown in the following screenshot...
