Mounting a VMFS datastore


A previously unmounted VMFS datastore can be re-mounted to the ESXi host. Doing so will make the datastore available for I/O operations.

How to do it...

The mount operation can be performed from the vSphere Web Client GUI or using the ESXi CLI. This section will cover both the methods.

Using the vSphere Web Client UI to mount

The following procedure will guide you through the steps required to mount a VMFS volume using the vSphere Web Client.

  1. Use the vSphere Web Client to connect to vCenter Server.

  2. Navigate to Home | Storage.

  3. With the data center object selected, navigate to Related Objects | Datastores and find the datastore in the Unmounted state:

  4. Right-click on the unmounted datastore and navigate to All vCenter Actions | Mount Datastore:

  5. Select the ESXi host to which the volume should be mounted and click on OK to initiate the mount operation:

  6. Verify the Recent Tasks pane to ensure that the mount operations have successfully completed on all the ESXi hosts that were selected...
