Maintaining and grooming the SCOM databases


Managing data retention for your SCOM databases is strongly recommended for maintaining your SCOM databases. Data retention affects the size of your databases and can consequently also affect the performance of your databases. It is therefore important to ensure that your data retention settings are properly configured for your environment. SCOM has built-in grooming processes and rules that remove unnecessary data from the Operations Manager database in order to maintain performance. For each data type in the operational database, you can specify how much time will elapse before the data gets deleted. The SCOM Operations Console allows you to modify the retention settings for each data type in the operational database. The SCOM Operations console does not however provide a means for modifying the data retention settings for your data warehouse database.
