We compared the metric groups between vCenter and vRealize Operations. We know that vRealize Operations provides a lot more detail, especially for larger objects such as vCenter, data center, and cluster. It also provides information about the distributed switch, which is not displayed in vCenter at all. This makes it useful for the big-picture analysis.
We will now look at individual counters. To give us a two-dimensional analysis, I would not approach it from the vSphere objects' point of view. Instead, we will examine the four key types of metrics (CPU, RAM, network, and storage). For each type, I will provide my personal take on what I think is a good guidance for their value. For example, I will give guidance on a good value for CPU contention based on what I have seen in the field. This is not an official VMware recommendation. I will state the official recommendation or popular recommendation if I am aware of it.
