Snapshots is one of the most useful, and at the same time dangerous, vCenter features. Snapshots allow saving the current VM state for rollback purposes.
At the same time, as changes happen to the virtual machine, a snapshot takes more space, which may potentially lead to a deficit of free space.
More details about snapshots and how to control space usage can be found in the Controlling space used by snapshots recipe in Chapter 6, Basic Administrative Tasks.
vCenter allows configuring an alarm for VMs with a snapshot larger than the specified size. Such an alarm can be used to locate virtual machines with snapshots. It can be useful for audit or cleaning purposes.
