The Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) technology is used for virtualizing applications.
Originally, this solution was known as Soft-Grid and it was developed by Softricity, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2006 and its name was changed to App-V.
App-V enables applications to be deployed to any supported client from a publishing server. With App-V, it is not necessary to perform a local installation of the applications because the applications are streamed to the end users either on demand or pre-installed in a local cache.
