Implementing shares, limits, and reservations on resource pools


Shares, limits, and reservation settings can be viewed under the Manage tab of every virtual machine, and can be configured individually for every resource. The following image shows shares, limits and reservations of a particular virtual machine:

To modify the settings or configure the shares, limits, and reservations on any of the resource, click on the Edit button on the VM hardware section, and under the Edit Settings page, select the desired configuration for every resource. For example, the following screenshot illustrates modification of share allocation for a vCPU for a VM:

When a host memory or CPU is over-committed, a virtual machine's allocation target is somewhere between its specified reservation and specified limit, depending on the virtual machine's shares and the system load.
