Summary

In this chapter, we demonstrated a simple installation and configuration of Virtual SAN. We discussed this in phases to segregate the standard vSphere components installation (which is outside the scope of this book) and Virtual SAN-specific configuration steps.

Also, the hardware leveraged is compliant with VSAN to underline the importance of compatibility. While this is a simple installation aimed at getting started with VSAN, we will look into the optimizations and best practices to strive toward the perfect design and setup in Chapter 7, Design Considerations and Guidelines.

From the chapters covered so far, you should now be familiar with the basic concepts of Virtual SAN and understand the constraints and considerations with regards to capacity management in Virtual SAN. Finally, you should be able to set up and deploy a simple Virtual SAN-backed cluster with n nodes.

With the VSAN datastore now created, the stage is set to effectively deploy virtual machines from a software defined...
